Report: Microsoft is readying a new Surface Pro X, maybe with 64-bit support - fishervirstal

Microsoft may announce support for emulating 64-bit Windows apps alongside a freshen of the Surface Pro X this fall, according to a report.

Sources talking to Windows Central theme that Microsoft plans a refreshed Surface Pro X using Microsoft's SQ1 chip, a derivative of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 5G, itself the next iteration of the Snapdragon 8cx chip that powered notebooks like the Samsung Galaxy Good Book S. Microsoft's version of the 8cx Gen 2 5G would reportedly be called the SQ2.

The name for the new Surface Affirmative X is unknown, though "Open Pro X 2" is a possibility. Windows Central reports that the design will continue unchanged, but with a platinum color alternative.

Though the Surface Pro X was Microsoft's effort at modernizing the comparatively fast Surface Pro lozenge design, IT suffered from three major flaws, according to our Surface In favour of X review: It was underpowered, compared to the competition; it suffered from compatibility issues, dating to its inability to extend to 64-bit X86 apps; and the battery life was removed from what you'd expect from an Limb-steam-powered machine.
